Area Overview and Functional Analysis

The Area panel in the IFC file can compare rooms programmed and designed areas in dRofus to IFCSpaces. Follow the steps below to access the comparison reports;

  1. https://drofus.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DV/pages/1318359788

  2. Link Rooms and IFCSpace using key attribute set in the https://drofus.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DV/pages/1323303360

To be able to compare room quantities and areas between dRofus and the model the Room function number must be used as key attribute used for comparing in the Room Attribute Configuration. If the Room function number do not exist in the model, it can be synced into the model, then be set as key attribute.

  1. Open the Area panel in the room overview by selecting the icon:

The image above shows the Area panel connected to IFC. To compare dRofus with the model, four columns have been added to the list of functions;

  1. # IfcSpace: A count of IfcSpaces connected to the function/sub-function. The count includes IfcSpaces that are not correctly linked. For example, if an IfcSpace has an incomplete Room function number like 21.xxx, it will still be counted in the # IfcSpace column in the corresponding function/sub-function in dRofus.

  2. Diff (#Spaces - #Rooms): The column compares the quantity of IfcSpaces in the function/sub-function with the quantity of dRofus rooms.

  3. BIM area: This column displays the sum of the area of the IfcSpace objects that are part of the function/sub-function. The BIM area includes IfcSpaces that are not correctly linked with dRofus rooms. For example, if an IfcSpace has an incomplete Room function number like 01.08 or 01.08.A, this will be included in the area calculation, although this is not a valid room function number in dRofus. In this way, the architect can design or set off areas that will fulfill certain functions without necessarily having the exact room function number. This can be useful in initial planning or comparing multiple design alternatives with the area requirements set in dRofus.

The relevant designed area needs to be part of the Room configuration to display the BIM area. Values do not need to be synced with dRofus, but it must be part of the configuration pointing from IFC to dRofus;
