General

There are several ways of finding specific rooms, Items, Occurrences, Products or Systems in dRofus:

  1. Quick search

  2. Search and advanced search

  3. Filter

  4. Ctrl+F. (Rooms and Items module)

Search remain active: The search will remain active until you remove the search word or use the X icon to the right of the quick search field. Searches will remain activated so you can navigate through the groups/functions. Have you search for the word "Chair", the item groups will be filtered when you navigate so you only see items with the word "Chair" in their names.

1.Quick search

The quick search function is located in the top of the Navigation panel. It is s free text field where you can insert your search criteria.

1.1 Room

The quick search for rooms can search for:

  • Keywords in Room name

  • Room name description

  • Room number

  • User room number

  • Room function number.

If you search for "office", the result will include "Office workplace", "Workplace, office" etc. If you search for "01", the result will be rooms which for example have room function number "01.01.001" or "02.03.012" or geographic number "042101". The search result can be seen in the Room panel.

1.2 Item module

The quick search in the Item module can search in properties on Items, occurrences and products.

2. Search and advanced search

If you need to do more complex searches by e.g. combine search conditions you can use the Search (2) option

The Search dialogue box is divided in two tabs:

  • Search

  • Advanced search

2.1 Search

What you can search for will be determined by which module you are opening the search dialogue from. If you e.g. open search from the Item module, all Item properties and specifications will show in the attribute list.

In the Search tab you can search in all properties in Rooms, Items, occurrence and products by:

  • Searching for an attribute by typing in a value in the attribute text-box.

  • Select search method. This menu will adjust depending on attribute. If you have selected a checkbox you will only be able to search for Yes/NO. If you have selected a numeric, drop-down or text-field you need to type in the value you want to search for. The image below shows an example where we want to find all Items with the responsibility ARC;

You can add more conditions by selecting the + icon. If you want to remove a condition select:

If you have more than one search condition, you can use the option in the top where you can decide whether you want all criteria to Match all of the following or Match any of the following;

  • Match all of the following: Search result need to fulfill all conditions

  • Match any of the following: Search result must fulfill at least one of the conditions

There are two types of criteria for text search which require detailed explanation:

Pattern: The pattern option allows you to create a more precise search function where you can use the ? and * characters as wildcards to represent a random character or several random characters. You use the | character to denote or group expressions with brackets. The search code S1??(N|M)* will provide all results which start with S1 and have either N or M as 5 characters. Not pattern means everything with the exception of search results. For example, *BA will return all which do not end in BA.
Regular expression: Using regular expressions, you can create extremely advanced search expression using pattern in text.

Documentation of this is available: here

Save search

You can save a search by:

  • Selecting "Save".

  • Give the saved search a name

  • Define whether you want to share the search with other users or if it's only should be visible for you.

You can find all the saved searches using the drop-down in the quick search field;

You can also edit or delete saved searches from the ribbon menu by selecting "Edit search" or "Delete search";

2.2 Advanced search

In the Advanced search you can set one or several top conditions and build an even more advanced search. This can be useful if you e.g. want to search withing a certain selection of items or rooms. Let's say we want to find all items that are connected to responsibility groups ARC (Architect) and ID (Interior Designer) that also are set "To be modeled". To accomplish this we need to create two top conditions. First we need to find all items with the responsibility ARC or ID, then we need to find out which of those items is set to be modeled. The search will look like this using advanced search;

In Condition 1 we specify that we want to find all items with responsibility ARC or ID.

If we had selected 'And' to combine the two conditions we would only get items which were connected to both responsibility groups (which is not allowed in dRofus so the search would return blank).

Then we created a new top condition (Condition 2). Here we want to find all items within Condition 1 that are set To be modeled. Select "Add root condition" and find "To be modeled" as search criteria as shown in the image above.

We now have two conditions (1 and 2). What's left to do is to determine how these two conditions shall be combined. We have selected "And" in this case because we want our search result to fulfill both conditions;

Condition 1: (Items must have responsibility ARC or ID) And...Condition 2 (Items must be set to be modeled)

Searches created in complex filter can be saved, edited and deleted similar to searches created in simple filter.

3. Filters

3.1 In navigation panel

If your database uses (one or more):

  • Room groups

  • Status

  • Classification

You can apply those as filters when you browse Rooms, Items, Systems, occurrences or products. You will see an Add filter (1) option in the navigation panel. If you press Add filter you will see all availbale statuses or classifications you can use as filters.

Step one is to select the group type, status type or classification type to filter by. Then you can press the status or classification again to decide which statuses or classifications you want to include in the filter.

In the example above we have first selected classification; Room classification. Then set the filter to include all rooms classified as "Green rooms". The result in the navigation panel is;

After applying filter to in the room or item module all lists (functions, item groups, status, classifications) will be filtered. To remove the filter select the X icon to the right of the applied filter.

3.2 Filter in colums

4. Ctrl+F.

When working in the rooms and items module, specifically in the navigation panel. Select:

  • A function level or item group level

  • Use "Ctrl+F" to see a search bar at the bottom of the navigation panel.

This will search the names of the functions and item groups.
