Subs as Properties - set up
Sub Items can be added as a drop-down menu for the Item. This is what we call "Subs as properties". The drop-down lists must be defined by a dRofus administrator,
Add Sub Items to the Properties pane:
Step 1: Add Sub Item Categories
Open the settings
Select “Items”
Select” Sub Items Categories”
Select “Add”
Enter Name of the drop-down that will be visible on the main item
Select the Item group that contains the Items that should be an option in the drop-down
Select “ok”
Select “Save” and “Close”
Step 2: Add drop-down menu to Item Group
Select the Item Group that contains the Items that the drop-down menu should be added to.
Add “Sub Item Categories” to the properties pane by:
Opening the properties pane
Select […] beside the “Sub Item categories” field
Tick the box to the “Sub Item categories” that should be added.
Select “ok”
A drop-down menu are now added to all Items within the Item -group
After adding a Sub item to an Item, the added Sub Item can be displayed in the Sub Item pane. In this example bellow the item 0006.001 Blue Wool is added as a sub to item 0101.005 Armchair;
Using this method will set the sub-item as a default for the item.
Subs as properties for occurrences
It is possible to add different Sub Items to different occurrences of the same item.
1. Add subs as properties directly on occurrences without the related item having any values set (no default value)
Note that different occurrences of the same item can have different subs as properties.
From the room perspective the occurrences can be seen both for the main item and for the item used as sub as properties on the occurrence of the main item. The occurrence of the item used as sub as properties has in this case a status “Unique sub item to…”
2. Change subs as properties on occurrences that already has a value set on the related item
Start by setting a value to the item that is related to the occurrences you want to add the parts as subs to. All occurrences that don’t already have a value set to the subs as properties category that you change on the item will inherit the same subs as properties as the item.
If you then want to change the value for a subs as properties category on one or more occurrences, select the occurrence(s) you want to change and choose the value you want them to have.
From the room perspective you can now see that the occurrence of the item used as sub as properties has in this case a status “Sub item to… Replaces…”
3. Changing the subs as properties on the related item - how it affects the subs as properties for the occurrences of that item
The subs as properties value on occurrences may or may not follow the values set on their related item. If the value in a subs as properties category is changed on the item that the occurrences relates to, you will get a warning-message informing you that the change you are doing on the item can affect the occurrences of that item.
The rules are as follows:
All occurrences of the item that have the same value in the subs as properties category as the item will follow the changes made to that subs as properties category in the item.
All occurrences that has a different value than the item they relates to, will keep their unique/derived values when changes are made to that subs as properties category in the item.
NOTE! If you want to clear the value on the item but keep the values for all occurrences with unique/derived values, select the empty line in the dropdown-list (see image 1 below) and do NOT use the “delete value” button (see image 2 below) since the later option will delete the values for all occurrences, also those with unique/derived values.
Show Properties of Parent Occurrence of a Sub, and vice versa
You can show properties of the parent occurrence on the sub occurrence and show properties of the sub occurrence on the parent occurrence.
This feature can for example be used in systems to see connections between disciplines:
Let's say you have a VAV-unit and that VAV-unit need data socket connection. You can set the data socket as sub as property on the VAV-unit.
What you want to see as a electrical engineer is which VAV-unit the data socket should be connected to, hereby the parent occurrence properties.
What you want to see as a mechanical engineer is which data socket the VAV-unit should be connected to, hereby the sub-occurrence properties.
