Revit Family Types and Instances


At the time of any "Item Type <-> Family Type" or "Item Occurrence <-> Family Instance" Synchronization process, if any Family Type(s) or Family Instance(s) have been edited by another user (User 2) within another active Local model session (without "Synchronizing to Central" and/or "Reloading Latest") then User 1 will get one of the following error messages:


For Item Type <-> Family Type Synchronization:



For Item Occurrence <-> Family Instance Synchronization:



In this case User 1 will need to cancel the operation, carry out "Synchronize with Central" and / or "Reload Latest", before carrying out the "Item Type <-> Family Type" or "Item Occurrence <-> Family Instance" Synchronization process.

If (the other) User 2 within another instance of the Local model has made changes to Item Type(s) but has not Synchronized with Central, when User 1 then attempts to Synchronize the same Item Type(s) within his / her instance of the Local model, this User 1 will get the following error message:



In this case User 1 will need to cancel the operation, Place a Request to User 2 to "Synchronize the element(s) to Central and Relinquish", carry out "Synchronize with Central" or "Reload Latest", and then carry out the Item Type <-> Family Type Synchronization process.
